Are you a fan of wrap dresses? A little more complicated to wear than a pencil skirt, but so much easier to take care of. You just have to tie it around your waist and that’s it! So here are some tips on how to get the same effect as I get in this dress from Mango. After that, it was just a matter of tying it over and over again. Just remember to tie the knot in front, or you’ll end up with a bow on your back.
1. Put it on as if you were going to tie your hair in a ponytail.
2. Pull the fabric at the level of the waist and pass it over your shoulder to have a triangle in front of you.
3. Take both sides behind your back and pull up at the level of where your waist is.
4. Pass one side over the other, tighten it and you’ve got your first knot! Read also: How to make a yukata?
5. Do the same with each side of the dress, pulling up both pieces of fabric at the level of the waist slightly more than in step 4.
6. Don’t tighten too much for this part, just enough to shape a nice fold on the back.
7. Fold each side once, as if you were simply tying it behind your back and tie a knot as you normally would do with a sash or fabric to tie around your waist. You can imagine that up at the level of the hip/crotch, there is no more fabric and wrap it around for a nice detail.
8. Pull gently at the front of the dress to create folds on each side. Tie them with a knot, too, just like you did above your breasts/under your bustline.
9. There is no step 9! Repeat steps 3-4 for the other side of the dress and voilà! You’re done.
10. If you’re not happy yet, here are some extra tips for a perfect wrap dress: – The first time you tie it on your body, don’t pull too hard or the knot will be crooked – For the neckline, either wear it as it is without tying anything behind your neck (it’s still cute) or make a knot behind your neck between each shoulder, to have two straps coming across your back – Don’t wear it with skinny jeans, because the waist seams will create lines on your body. But you can wear it with shorts or leggings for example.
That’s all! I hope this was helpful and that you now have an easier time wearing a wrap dress.
